Mechanical/Plumbing 101: Foundations of HVAC and Plumbing Coordination
About
This introductory session gives architects and design professionals a working understanding of the mechanical and plumbing systems that shape building design. Topics include common HVAC system types, such as hydronic, DX, split, packaged, and VRF systems, and the spatial needs they create, from rooftop equipment and shafts to mechanical rooms and above-ceiling clearances. The session also covers plumbing basics, including domestic water, sanitary waste and vent, and gas systems, along with strategies for general coordination and quality control across disciplines. Participants will leave better equipped to anticipate mechanical and plumbing needs early in design, supporting more efficient and code-compliant outcomes.
