Electrical 101: Foundations of Electrical Systems, Space Planning, and Utility Coordination

About

This introductory session gives architects and design professionals a working knowledge of electrical systems in commercial buildings, with a focus on coordination considerations. Topics include lighting, power, and special systems such as fire alarm, structured cabling, and security, along with the space and clearance requirements each demands. The course also covers general coordination topics, including electrical room placement, utility location, site considerations, and reflected ceiling plan coordination, plus a QA/QC framework for catching conflicts before construction documents are finalized. Participants will gain a practical foundation for coordinating electrical design decisions early in the design process.
