UHS Robert B. Green Campus, Downtown

University Health System (UHS)
San Antonio, TX

This multi-phase project for University Health System required coordination of several elements: a new six-story Outpatient Clinical Building, renovations to Building A, the demolition of Buildings B and C, and additional parking. Cleary Zimmermann provided plumbing design services for these projects using Revit for building information modeling.

For the new six-story Outpatient Clinical Building, our team provided plumbing services. We installed water heating and water softeners in the penthouse level, and in turn, added pressure reducing valves for the domestic water supply loop as well as low flow fixtures. Additionally, the project was designed to comply with the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) requirements for ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). The design included back up medical gas supplies for the ASC that were separate from the rest of the facility to ensure a readily available medical air and vacuum system should the main hospital systems be compromised.

Building A housed the original Brady Green Hospital and was repurposed for business offices, for which we provided HVAC design services. During the renovation, we removed the existing steam to domestic hot water heat exchangers and replaced them with a duplex instantaneous steam to domestic hot water heat exchanger. These changes provided relatively instant hot water for restrooms and kitchen facilities without the use of holding tanks where heat is wasted to the environment.
