This 406,000 square foot renovation transformed the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - City Center into the state of the art pediatric hospital, Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. To align with the hospital’s new mission, all adult services except obstetrics were relocated to other hospitals. The renovated facility consists of approximately 200 beds, including a 60-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a 24-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, a 16-bed Intermediate Care Unit. Six Labor and Delivery Rooms are also housed on-site. In addition to the interior renovation of the facility, a portion of the existing building facade was upgraded. The building was occupied during construction which required phasing and multiple design packages.
Cleary Zimmermann provided electrical design services to serve both the power and lighting needs for the renovation. Extensive coordination was required due to the number of sub-consultants on this project, including separate consultants for mechanical and plumbing design. The height between floors was shorter than that of a typical hospital, which required a significant amount of coordination to fit all necessary systems into the smaller space. The lobby included decorative light fixtures and a culinary teaching kitchen which required sun lamps for an indoor herb garden.
