CZ Staff Service Days Feed Healthcare Heroes and Texans in Need

As we look back on the last 15 years here at Cleary Zimmermann, one thing becomes immediately obvious: our people are the backbone of our success. Across all departments, we are firm of problem solvers; we just want to help and do what is best by our colleagues and our clients. While we have engineers and designers on staff who have been with CZ since our doors opened in 2006, those team members who have joined CZ as recently as this month are as much a part of the fabric of the firm.

While we work together every day to serve our clients on over 200 projects annually, we have a unique opportunity to use our collective effort and manpower to serve our larger community this year. The centerpiece of our 15 Year Hands-On, 1500 Hours Hands-On Anniversary celebration is our firmwide staff service days! Based on suggestions from our team members, we have chosen signature events which bring together our team to serve our community.

We kicked off the celebration in February with a Cowboy Breakfast serving 500 breakfast tacos to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Methodist Texsan Hospital for the 6am shift change. We were bundled up for our chilly 3:45 am call time but no one had any idea what cold weather was coming our way in the following week from Winter Storm Uri! This event was the brainchild of Anthony Medina, and with Matthew Smith and Brian Keller manning the griddles, Aaron Heaps and Angela Garcia rolling and wrapping tacos (among others), and Wade Cleary and Danny Zimmermann serving, it was a team effort to keep the tacos hot and ready for the hospital staff! Check out the video here!

At the suggestion of Amber Gass and Tony Maldonado, more than 30 CZers spent a Friday morning in May serving 900 families for the San Antonio Food Bank Crisis Relief Distribution at Northside ISD’s Gustafson Stadium. From bagging loose carrots and potatoes to loading up client’s vehicles with a week’s worth of staples, working together in service of others was reenergizing and the first opportunity for a teamwide event in over a year. Always searching for ways to optimize processes, Kelly Mahula, Kristin Rios, and Joyce Watson worked through multiple iterations of the carrot bagging process to make it more efficient: by hand, lifting and pouring, and finally, the gravity-assisted carrot waterfall! All joking aside, it was a privilege to provide much needed manpower to helping our neighbors in a time when demand for food assistance was incredibly high. See our team in action here!

As we look forward to our next staff service day in July for the Texas Diaper Bank, we can’t wait to see the impact our people continue to have on our community through service.
