Moving On Up! Mid-year CZ Promotions

We are halfway through 2025, and there are some big changes happening at Cleary Zimmermann Engineers.   We are excited to spotlight two of our CZers who have recently been promoted! Daniel Hernandez, PE has been named Director of K-12, and Tyler “TJ” Gary, PE has stepped into the role of Director of Electrical.

Over the past six years at Cleary Zimmermann, Daniel has made a significant impact—first as a mechanical engineer, then as Director of Mechanical Engineering, and now stepping into this new leadership role. We sat down with Daniel to ask him a few questions about his journey here at CZ and how he feels about the transition into his new role:

Could you share more about your background at Cleary Zimmermann?

“Early on, when I first joined CZ, I was exposed to a wide variety of complex projects. I have been blessed to work alongside very knowledgeable and talented peers. I started getting into different K-12 projects, such as complete central plant upgrades, and new schools/buildings, and have been able to gain significant knowledge and expertise in this market sector. I moved into a Project Manager role after about a year of working with the firm.  I eventually stepped into the Director of Mechanical Engineering role, and now I’m excited to be taking on my newest position as Director of K-12.”

Can you tell us about your new role and responsibilities?

“I will be spearheading the K-12 market sector and will be the main point of contact for the firm. Aside from my Design/Project Manager duties and responsibilities,  I’ll also be focused on building strong client relationships and making sure I’m always available to support their needs.”

How has your previous role and experience at the firm contributed to your professional growth?

“Having the opportunity to grow and transition here at CZ has helped me gain valuable skills. As a Project Manager, I have learned and continue to learn valuable communication skills, whether it is through our design or just verbal day-to-day communication with clients and peers.”

Tyler “TJ” Gary, PE

We’re also thrilled to announce the promotion of Tyler (TJ) Gary to Director of Electrical! After making his mark as an electrical engineer, TJ is stepping into this leadership role with enthusiasm. We caught up with TJ to chat about his journey at CZ and what he’s looking forward to in this new chapter.

Could you share more about your background at Cleary Zimmermann?

“I was looking for an MEP design company to intern with during my junior to senior year of college, and a family-friend recommended CZ as a great company, so I reached out and had an interview with Wade and was brought on for a summer internship. I enjoyed the field and the company so much that I had reached out expressing interest in a full-time position and started at CZ full-time as an electrical engineer following my graduation. I will celebrate 5 years at CZ full-time on June 2nd. I have taken great time and involvement with engaging my senior electrical engineers and working diligently on projects and growing in my technical understanding of the field. I have worked my way within CZ from electrical engineer, to EIT, to PE, and now to Director of Electrical. I believe that starting my career at CZ has allowed me to really become fully integrated with the culture and technical design expectations of the company, which gives me insight into how to manage and direct the electrical team’s work to align with the company’s values.”

Can you tell us about your new role and responsibilities?

“ My responsibilities consist of the oversight, mentoring, and quality control of the electrical team and its workings for all four  offices. I am actively engaged in the technical oversight of all team members, managing design standards, partaking in quality control efforts, developing training and mentoring opportunities for all members, and still providing electrical engineering design for projects.”

How has your previous role and experience at the firm contributed to your professional growth?

“Cleary Zimmermann offers a wide array of technically proficient senior electrical engineers who all take an active interest in helping younger engineers develop their technical understanding of the job. I have found this to be a major contribution to my technical and professional growth. This has allowed me to be proactive in my involvement in company-related activities, from creating and teaching CZU classes, community service events, being a mentor and leader to younger engineers, being a resource to further develop my professional career, and overall being engaged when developing my skills.”

We are so excited to see Daniel and TJ thrive in their new roles! Their leadership, dedication, and passion for excellence continue to shape the future of Cleary Zimmermann. We’re excited to see how they’ll grow in their new roles and the positive impact they’ll have on our team, our clients, and the communities we serve.
